The week ahead in college football

Five things to watch this week in college football.

1. Nebraska at Wisconsin, safe to say, is the biggest game in the history of the 12-team Big Ten. No need to remember Nebraska is in the “Legends” division and Wisconsin is in “Leaders.” It’s easier to think “Steak” vs. “Cheese” for maybe the whole Bowl Championship Series enchilada.

2. Texas A&M of the Big 12 (for now) meets future Southeastern Conference mate Arkansas in a neutral-site game in Arlington, Texas. The Razorbacks can tell the Aggies how hard the SEC can be. Arkansas joined the SEC in 1992 and has yet to win the conference championship.

3. Revenge is an ugly word, but let’s freely apply it to Boise State hosting Nevada this week. Nevada’s incredible overtime win in Reno knocked Boise out of a Rose Bowl bid. Nevada, which has already given up 69 points in a loss to Oregon this year, isn’t nearly the same team without quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

4. Revenge II: Texas has had a year and a bye week to prepare for this week’s trip to Iowa State. Last year, before Texas had its own network, the Cyclones became, well, actually one of five schools to shock the Longhorns in Austin.

5. Clemson, which did not receive one vote in the preseason Associated Press poll, checked in at No. 13 on Sunday after Saturday’s huge win over Florida State. The 4-0 Tigers, who have also defeated Auburn this year, get tested again this week at No. 11 Virginia Tech.
