Gardena Serra at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 7 p.m.: A year ago, Notre Dame quarterback Kelly Hilinski and Serra quarterback Jalen Greene were making their first varsity starts. After a year of experience, both are expected to be in top form. Notre Dame is trying to reverse two years of missing the Pac-5 playoffs. Running back Khalfani Muhammad, the state champion in the 100 and 200 meters, will try to help the Knights break off some big plays. Serra has its own speed with running backs Anterio Bateman and Malik Roberson. The pick: Notre Dame.

Long Beach Poly at Carson, 7 p.m. First-year Coach Jimmy Nolan won’t be allowed to coach in this game for Carson because he missed a mandatory City Section meeting, so that’s asking a lot of the Colts. But Carson has lots of talent, including running backs Kendell Sparks and Tony Ingram. Poly is trying to return to successfully running the ball, and that means watch out for Gerard Wicks, a punishing running back. The pick: Poly.
