The stomach flu bug kept hitting players in the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament at Indian Wells on Tuesday. The latest casualty was Russian Nikolay Davydenko, who defaulted before the start of his match with Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci.

Another player, Jamie Hampton of the U.S., also went out before the end of her match, but her problem was cramping. She had just begun a third set against Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska, the fifth-seeded player, when she fell to the court. She was down so long that an accumulation of penalty points cost her two games. When Hampton got back on the court, at 0-3, she played one point, hit an overhead and cramped again.

The late evening matches Monday went to Caroline Wozniacki, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, over Sweden’s Sofia Arvidsson. Wozniacki, ranked and seeded fourth, won last year’s tournament.

The final match, ending well past 1:30 a.m., keeps hopes alive for American men, with Ryan Harrison taking out Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, the player who had taken out No. 4 Andy Murray the round before. Harrison won in 1 hour 49 minutes, 6-4, 7-5.

In the opening Tuesday match on the main court, 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina, outlasted Fernando Verdasco of Spain, 6-2, 7-6 (6).
