Live discussion: Can USC still win the BCS title?

Share

We had a live Google+ hangout today with Times UCLA writer Chris Foster, USC writer Gary Klein and national college football columnist Chris Dufresne.

The main topic was USC and its national title hopes.

USC probably needs to put a big number up on the Washington Huskies this Saturday. The Trojans also need Notre Dame to keep winning so they can take advantage of strength of schedule at the end of the season.

The Stanford-Notre Dame game this weekend is huge, and USC probably wants Notre Dame to win. If the Trojans can keep Oregon and Notre Dame in front of them in the polls, Dufresne said, it can only help their national title hopes if they were able to defeat the Ducks and Irish near the end of the season.

But Dufresne said he wouldn’t be stunned if Stanford shocks everyone and beats Notre Dame.

He pointed out that South Carolina has been the sleeper team this season. If South Carolina goes into LSU and wins, then they are legit and could find themselves in the BCS title game.

We do live Google+ hangouts every day, Monday to Friday. At 11:30 a.m. Friday, it will be another edition of “NFL Slam with Mark and Sam”, starring Sam Farmer and former radio personality Mark Thompson.

If you have a question for Farmer or Thompson, send it in an email to sportshangout@latimes.com and we will try to answer it during the discussion.
