Recap: Google+ Hangout with college football reporters

Share

The Times’ UCLA reporter Chris Foster, USC reporter Gary Klein and national columnist Chris Dufresne chatted this afternoon about a variety of topics.

Moderator John Cherwa, Times deputy sports editor, pointed out that Dufresne correctly predicted that when USC and California play this weekend they would both be coming off losses.

Although Dufresne said the Pac-12 Conference is much stronger this season than it has been in recent years, he ranks the Big 12 as the nation’s No. 1 conference with the SEC at No. 2 and Pac-12 at No. 3. He also said that Stanford, coming off a 21-14 victory over the Trojans, could be the team to watch in the Pac-12.

Klein pointed out that the USC passing game hasn’t been attempting as many downfield passes as you’d think with big-play receivers Robert Woods and Marqise Lee.

Foster said the Bruins will beat Oregon State and Colorado the next two games before arriving at 5-0 in Berkeley for a game against the Bears. He said that’s when we’ll find out if Coach Jim Mora has turned the UCLA program around or if he still has plenty of work to do.

The Times’ college football reporters will back online next Thursday for a Google+ Hangout. That start time will be 11:30 a.m.
