AT THE PLATE: Luis Rodriguez hit a run-scoring double in the third inning, and Kaleb Cowart hit a two-run triple in the sixth. The Angels, who finished Cactus League play with a 9-18-4 record, lead the major leagues with 20 triples this spring, and they rank second in scoring with 201 runs.

ON THE MOUND: A brutal spring for the bullpen ended on a high note when closer Ernesto Frieri retired the side in order in the ninth. Kevin Jepsen escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the seventh, and Sean Burnett gave up a run and three hits in the eighth. Ryan Madson took a positive step in his return from elbow surgery, completing a 40-pitch bullpen session. “He threw really well,” Manager Mike Scioscia said. “His last eight pitches he threw 100%.”

EXTRA BASES: After signing veteran right-hander Mark Lowe before the game, the Angels made two moves to bolster their bullpen depth afterward, acquiring right-hander Elvin Ramirez from the New York Mets for cash and right-hander Dane De La Rosa from Tampa Bay for right-hander Steve Geltz. De La Rosa, 30, was 0-4 with a 2.79 earned-run average in 54 games at triple-A Durham (N.C.) last season; Ramirez, 25, was 3-2 with a 2.13 ERA in 55 double-A and triple-A games.

UP NEXT: Angels vs. Dodgers at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Angel Stadium. On the air: TV: Prime Ticket; Radio: 830.
