Julius Randle makes it all good for Lakers at the finish

The Lakers weren’t done with surprises.

Their team cohesion, left for dead after D’Angelo Russell’s surreptitious video of Nick Young was leaked, was actually alive and well Wednesday at Staples Center.

It was only one game in a litany of miserable ones, but the Lakers won in overtime, 102-100, against Miami, a team that needed the victory a lot more than they did.

Julius Randle scored the go-ahead basket on an eight-foot spinner in the lane with 1.9 seconds left, Joe Johnson’s three-point attempt at the buzzer was way off the mark, and the Lakers pulled off the upset.

“We needed it,” said Randle, who had 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Lakers (16-59). “Hadn’t got one in a while, especially coming off that loss in Utah.”

Jordan Clarkson had 26 points two days after the Lakers tied a franchise record with a 48-point loss to the Jazz.

Lakers fans booed Russell initially but cheered him late.

He pressed a bit too much in the fourth quarter, missing all six of his attempts. Then he atoned with a three-pointer and driving layup in overtime to finish with 16 points on erratic six-for-19 shooting.

“I can’t really show my face anywhere right now without people hating me,” Russell said. “I’ll try to end it the right way.”

Kobe Bryant had another subpar game, scoring two points on one-for-seven shooting, and did not play after the first quarter because of what the team called “general soreness.”

He was wrapped in bags of ice on both knees and his left shoulder as he sat on the bench for the rest of the first half. The Lakers don’t play again until Sunday against Boston at Staples Center.

Dwyane Wade missed a 20-footer as time expired in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

He had 26 points for Miami (43-31), which missed a valuable chance while trying to stay in the hunt for third place in the Eastern Conference.

Fans cheered loudly during a third-quarter timeout when he was shown on the scoreboard in his courtside seat across from the Miami bench. He walked over to Lakers President Jeanie Buss and hugged her during a first-quarter timeout.

After the game, Odom met with Bryant in the Lakers’ training room.

Odom, 36, won two championships while playing for the Lakers for seven seasons. He was the NBA’s sixth man of the year in 2010-11.

Odom was found unresponsive at a Nevada brothel after ingesting cocaine and several doses of Viagra-like medication, according to Nevada sheriffs at the time.
