Reporting from Minneapolis -- Twenty-four minutes of basketball separate the Lakers from a winless road trip.

They trail the Minnesota Timberwolves, 58-49, at halftime Friday at Target Center, the latest surprising development for a team in danger of falling to 6-15 on the road.

The Lakers appeared to catch a break beforehand when Minnesota announced that All-Star forward Kevin Love would be sidelined because of back spasms. He is averaging 25.5 points and 13.8 rebounds.

The Lakers (23-16) couldn’t take advantage of Love’s absence in the first half.

Pau Gasol had a surprisingly quiet 16 minutes, scoring four points and taking four rebounds.

Andrew Bynum had 16 points on seven-for-eight shooting and Kobe Bryant had 12 points on four-for-14 shooting.

Love’s replacement, rookie Derrick Williams, had 17 points for Minnesota, which led by 14 in the first quarter.

So far on this road trip, the Lakers lost to Detroit in overtime and to Washington after leading by 21.
