Reporting from Memphis -- The Lakers are trying to improve their 7-14 road record.
They’re not being overly successful.
They’re losing to the short-handed Memphis Grizzles at halftime, 52-51, Tuesday at FedEx Forum.
The Lakers trailed by as many as nine but closed with a scoring burst in the final minutes of the second quarter.
Andrew Bynum is off to a strong start, scoring 18 points on seven-for-nine shooting against fellow All-Star center Marc Gasol.
Rudy Gay is not playing for Memphis because he sustained a mild concussion Sunday against Denver. He is averaging 18.8 points.
Tony Allen has 13 points and Gasol has 12 for the Grizzlies (24-16), who are half a game behind the Lakers in the Western Conference.
The Lakers (25-16) committed seven turnovers in the first quarter and trailed, 29-21. They finish a quick two-game trip Wednesday in New Orleans.
