Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard are not expected to play Wednesday
Kobe Bryant says that he will probably miss Wednesday’s game against the Clippers because of a strained and bruised right foot.
“It’s pretty sore,” Bryant said, speaking in a monotone, clipped form.
Bryant was kicked in the foot during the third quarter of Sunday’s 99-92 exhibition loss to the Sacramento Kings. He didn’t practice Monday or Tuesday.
What’s the pain level of the foot?
“Pretty high,” Bryant said.
Bryant, who is listed as day-to-day, said that even if it were a regular-season game Wednesday, he probably wouldn’t play.
That’s a strong statement for Bryant, who is known for playing through injuries.
“It’s always frustrating to have these freak accidents,” Bryant said. “It always upsets me.”
Bryant, however, said that in a sense his injury is a good thing because it will force him to get some rest.
“It’s going to slow me down a little bit,” he said. “I’ve been going full-bore pretty much every day.”
Dwight Howard, who made his Lakers debut Sunday, is also not expected to play Wednesday because of soreness in his back, which needed surgery to repair a herniated disk.
Howard had 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocked shots Sunday in his first NBA game since April.
Lakers fans, however, can most likely look forward to seeing Jordan Hill on Wednesday. Hill is expected to make a comeback against the Clippers after being diagnosed with a herniated disk Oct. 8.
