The Lakers waived veteran point guard Chris Duhon on Saturday, according to a team release.

Duhon would have earned $3.75 million for the coming season had the Lakers kept him under contract into July.

Instead, Duhon will receive $1.5 million of his salary that was fully guaranteed.

The Lakers saved more than $2.25 million in salary -- possibly up to $9 million in luxury tax.

Duhon was acquired last summer from the Orlando Magic in the trade that brought Dwight Howard to the Lakers.

With Steve Nash and Steve Blake ahead of him in the rotation, Duhon was not expected to play much last season.

Instead, he made 46 appearances, including nine starts. Duhon averaged 2.9 points and 2.9 assists a game and shot 36.3% from three-point range.

As a starter, Duhon averaged 6.9 points and 5.4 assists and shot 42.1% from beyond the arc.
