Nick Young was due for some good karma.

The Laker guard’s house was robbed during a game last Sunday, and he said nearly $100,000 worth of clothing, jewelry and shoes had been stolen.

Things went much better for him during Tuesday’s 124-112 loss to the Portland Trailblazers.

Young scored a game-high 40 points on 15-for-26 shooting from the field, more than twice as many points as any of his teammates.

“Had to be the shoes,” Young said of his Nike Air Zoom Generation LeBron James 1 Wheat sneakers. “You were all talking about my LeBron’s, it had to have been the shoes. Man, I told you. They might not look right, but, hey, let me retire these.”

Young made his first eight shots of the game and fell just three points short of his career-high of 43. He had an impressive array of crossovers and jumpers, including swishing a shot as he fell to the ground with a 360-degree spin after being fouled with 6 minutes and 28 seconds left in the second quarter from just inside the three-point line.

“I’m happy for myself, but you know, we lost,” Young said. “We’ve just got to keep our heads up and keep trying to find motivation.”

Don’t expect him to find it from the shoes.

When asked if he was going to wear them in Wednesday’s game against Sacramento, Young laughed.

“Nah, all the magic is gone” he said.
