Jazz beat Cavaliers at buzzer on Gordon Hayward’s shot, 102-100

Gordon Hayward made a step-back jumper at the buzzer, one-upping LeBron James and boosting the Utah Jazz to a 102-100 victory over the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.

Hayward, who had 21 points, broke free of James to catch an inbounds pass, faked a move to the basket and then stepped back on the right wing and swished a 21-foot jump shot as the horn sounded.

Derrick Favors had 21 points and 10 rebounds but the Jazz had to overcome a last-minute effort by James, who scored 31 points as Cleveland fell to 1-3.

Memphis 102, at Phoenix 91: Mike Conley had 24 points and 11 assists and the Grizzlies improved to 5-0, the best start in franchise history. Memphis forced 10 turnovers in the third and turned an 11-point deficit in the second period into a five-point lead going into the fourth.

at San Antonio 94, Atlanta 92: Manu Ginobili broke a tie with two free throws with 3.8 seconds left, Tim Duncan had 17 points and 13 rebounds, and the Spurs beat the Hawks at home for the 17th straight time.

at Washington 96, Indiana 94 (OT): John Wall had seven of his 31 points in overtime and the Wizards won their fourth straight. The Pacers’ 1-4 record is their worst five-game start since 1996.

at Charlotte 96, Miami 89: Al Jefferson scored a season-high 28 points and added 10 rebounds, and the Hornets ended a 16-game, regular-season losing streak against the Heat. Charlotte was winless against Miami in the LeBron James era, including getting swept in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs last season. Chris Bosh had 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Heat.

Toronto 110, at Boston 107: Kyle Lowry scored 35 points and had a key steal in the closing minute for the Raptors, who won despite a 13-point, 15-assist, 10-rebound night for the Celtics’ Rajon Rondo. DeMar DeRozan had 23 points, including a three-point play with 33 seconds left off Lowry’s steal with the score tied at 105.

Minnesota 98, at Brooklyn 91: Nikola Pekovic converted a tiebreaking three-point play with 48 seconds left for the Timberwolves, who scored the final nine points of the game. Kevin Martin led Minnesota with 26 points and rookie Andrew Wiggins, playing in the arena where he was taken by Cleveland with the No. 1 pick in the draft, added 17.

Chicago 95, at Milwaukee 86: Derrick Rose returned from two sprained ankles to help the Bulls to their ninth win in a row on the Bucks’ home court. Taj Gibson scored 23 points, Pau Gasol added 22 and Rose had 13 points and seven assists in 32 minutes for Chicago.

at Detroit 98, New York 95: Greg Monroe had 23 points and 18 rebounds, and the Pistons won their first game of the season. Carmelo Anthony had 13 points on five-for-21 shooting for the Knicks.

Orlando 91, at Philadelphia 89: In a matchup of winless teams, Tobias Harris made a jumper at the buzzer for the Magic. The 76ers are 0-5 for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
