Johnny Manziel took to Twitter on Thursday to clarify that he’s not charging money for selfies at the Super Bowl, calling that notion the “dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”

That tweet led to several other more introspective ones from the former Heisman Trophy winner and failed NFL quarterback, who admitted to having made mistakes in the past and thanked those who stuck with him even though he had been “#LostInTheSauce.”

His initial post seemed to be in reference to a Houston-area memorabilia store chain that is advertising Super Bowl-week appearances by Manziel. According to the website Crave the Auto, autographs and traditional photos with the former Texas A&M hero will cost $99, with selfies $50 and inscriptions of up to four words $29.

But Manziel tweeted that he’s “not charging a penny for a damn ‘selfie’ at the super bowl.”

Manziel did seem to confirm he’s doing the signings though, saying the events are for his loyal fans.

After two highly successful seasons with the Aggies, Manziel was a first-round draft pick for the Cleveland Browns in 2014. But his NFL career fizzled out quickly after he made more headlines with his hard-partying lifestyle off the field than any kind of success on it.

In January 2015, he was accused of hitting and threatening ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley. The misdemeanor assault charge carried a penalty of up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine, but Manziel reached a conditional dismissal agreement with prosecutors last month.

In more tweets on Thursday, he reflected on his past and said that he’s just trying to be a better person now.
