Eddie Lacy is back after another concussion, and he is pondering a couple of changes.

The bruising Green Bay Packers running back returned to practice Thursday as a full participant after getting knocked out of last week’s loss to Seattle in the season opener. He appears ready to assume his normal workload in Sunday’s home opener against the New York Jets.

It was Lacy’s second concussion in nearly a year, enough to get him thinking about adjusting his running style.

“Somehow I’ll have to figure out a way to change the way I run, but still keep the physical part of it,” Lacy said. “It’s not really something I’m trying to change as of now. I guess as I get older I will figure out how it goes.”

The second change appears to be more immediate.

Starting in training camp, Lacy had been wearing a new helmet designed to better safeguard against concussions.

“That’s what we all thought,” Lacy said. He’s switching to his old helmet on Friday. “I tried it out, and I think I’ll go back,” Lacy said.

Banged-up Bears have big concerns

The Chicago Bears are looking at the possibility of having two spots on the offensive line being manned by reserves with center Roberto Garza and left guard Matt Slauson nursing ankle injuries while they could also be without one or both Pro Bowl receivers, with Brandon Marshall (ankle) and Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) hobbled.

The injuries to Garza and Slauson appear more serious. But having to face the 49ers without Marshall or Jeffery would be huge blows for Chicago.

Both receivers sat out their second straight practice Thursday. While Marshall vowed to be ready, it’s not clear if he or Jeffery will get the go-ahead.

Jones-Drew misses another practice

Oakland Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew missed his second straight practice with a right hand injury, putting his status for Sunday’s home opener against Houston in doubt.

With Jones-Drew sitting out once again on Thursday, Darren McFadden and Latavius Murray shared the running back duties in practice.

Jones-Drew said he had a “minor procedure” done on his hand and does not consider the injury serious. Jones-Drew hurt a finger in a preseason game against Detroit last month and says the injury has lingered the past few weeks before getting worse in the season opener against the New York Jets.

Coach Dennis Allen refused to answer any questions about the injury or Jones-Drew’s status for Sunday, saying only that he did not practice on Thursday.

Robert Mathis will miss the rest of the season with a torn Achilles’ tendon. Mathis was injured during a private workout in Atlanta, less than two weeks after he started serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy. ... Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed (hamstring) and defensive lineman Kedric Golston (groin) are doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
