Quarterback Jared Goff and other Rams rookies sign contracts

Quarterback Jared Goff, the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, and five other Rams rookies signed contracts on Thursday, the team announced.

No terms were announced, but Goff’s deal is expected to be worth slightly more than Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, the No. 2 pick in the draft who reportedly received a four-year, $26.7-million contract that includes a $17.6-million signing bonus.

Tight end Tyler Higbee and receiver Pharoh Cooper, the Rams’ fourth-round picks, and tight end Temarrick Hemingway, linebacker Josh Forrest and receiver Michael Thomas, all sixth-round picks, also signed contracts at the team’s temporary training base in Oxnard.

The Rams organized team activities for Friday.

In 2011, the year after the Rams selected quarterback Sam Bradford with the No. 1 pick and gave him a six-year, $78-million contract, the NFL and NFL Players Assn. reached a new collective bargaining agreement that instituted a rookie salary system.

Last year, quarterback Jameis Winston was selected No. 1 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he signed a $25.4-million deal that included a $16.6-million signing bonus. Quarterback Marcus Mariota, the No, 2 pick by the Tennessee Titans, signed a four-year, $24.2-million contract that included a $15.9-million signing bonus.
