Update: The Galaxy has reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup four times in the last seven years, but the team hasn’t gone further since 2006 when it reached the final. The Sounders, on the other hand, have been the tournament’s dominant team, reaching the final five times since 2009 and winning the title four times. Both teams come into this game heading in opposite directions, though. The Sounders have won just three of their last 11 games against MLS competition, and the Galaxy has lost one of its last eight. The Galaxy is also unbeaten at home this season, although Wednesday’s game will be played in the StubHub Center’s track stadium since the main field is playing host to the CrossFit Games.
