Update: The last time Chivas USA faced the Fusion was in a practice game in January — and the Fusion won, 1-0. This time the teams will be playing for real in a third-round matchup in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the nation’s oldest knockout soccer tournament. The Fusion, one of three amateur teams still alive in the tournament, is led by former Chivas midfielder Rodrigo Lopez. Ventura plays in the Premier Developmental League and is coming off its first competitive win over a professional club — a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Blues in the second round of the Hunt Cup. Chivas, meanwhile, is unbeaten in its last four Major League Soccer games. The winner of Tuesday’s game will advance to play the winner of the Galaxy-Carolina RailHawks game in Cary, N.C., on June 5. Chivas resumes MLS play June 16.
