Angels claim reliever A.J. Achter off waivers from Phillies
The Angels added some bullpen depth on Thursday by claiming A.J. Achter, a 27-year-old right-hander, off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Achter, who mixes a 90-mph fastball with a slider and changeup, has 5.18 earned-run average in 24 1/3 innings over 18 big-league games for the Minnesota Twins in 2014-2015.
In six minor league seasons in the Twins organization, Achter went 22-18 with a 2.88 ERA and averaged 9.4 strikeouts and 3.0 walks per nine innings. He was claimed off waivers by Philadelphia but did not throw a pitch for the Phillies.
