Key dates set in Russian doping investigations
A timetable is taking shape for major decisions in the ever-widening Russian doping scandal.
The World Anti-Doping Agency has set July 15 as the latest date to complete an investigation into allegations that a former official at a Moscow anti-doping lab swapped tainted samples for clean urine during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
At the same time, international track officials are seeking more information as they approach a June 17 vote to decide if the banned Russian track and field team will be reinstated in time for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The Russians are facing allegations on numerous fronts in the wake of a previous WADA investigation and media reports that claim state-sponsored cheating among athletes, coaches and officials.
The international track federation’s task force will visit Russia this week to conduct further discussions, according to aroundtherings.com.
The WADA investigation would be completed less than a month before the Rio Games. However, the agency has stated its president may extend the deadline.
