Grand Terrace’s Blake Baggett aims for second motocross title
Blake Baggett of Grand Terrace is trying to make a charge for his second consecutive motocross championship in the 250-class division of the off-road motorcycle series.
Baggett, 21, earned his first win of the season Saturday at the Budds Creek National in Mechanicsville, Md., the fifth race on the 12-race schedule of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
“It’s a step in the right direction,” Baggett said.
The victory lifted the Kawasaki rider to fourth place in the championship standings, but he still trails series leader Ken Roczen by 32 points.
Baggett and the series will next race Saturday at the Moto-X 338 National in Southwick, Mass. The season ends Aug. 24 at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park in Riverside County.
In the sport’s premier 450 class, reigning champion Ryan Dungey of Belle Plaine, Minn., was the winner at the Budds Creek event.
Dungey is now second in the 450-class standings, 16 points behind series leader Ryan Villopoto.
