Kings fan reportedly files water-spray complaint against Chicago goalie

Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford has been under fire from the Kings throughout the Western Conference finals, allowing 13 goals in three consecutive losses.

Now there’s a report that Crawford has been named in a complaint to the Los Angeles Police Department that charges he sprayed water from his squirt bottle onto a fan who attended the Kings’ 5-2 victory in Game 4 at Staples Center on Monday.

The Blackhawks did not make Crawford available to reporters Wednesday morning, minutes after the report by TMZ was posted.

According to the report, a Kings fan, age 27, filed the complaint alleging battery after Crawford sprayed the fan, who was heckling the goalie, late in the third period when Chicago went with an empty net.

Chicago Coach Joel Quenneville, with his defending Stanley Cup champions needing a victory Wednesday night at United Center to avoid elimination, said he was only briefed on the basics of the report before meeting with reporters following the Blackhawks’ morning skate.

Crawford was first off the ice, indicating that he’ll start Game 5.

“I just heard about it on the way over ... first I’d heard of it,” Quenneville said. “I’m not aware of the situation, other than what you’ve just said and what others have mentioned about it. I’m not worried about it right now, I’m worried about the game, as [is] Corey.”

TMZ reported that league sources said the fan was ejected from the game for taunting players. The report said the fan suffered eye irritation and that he speculated Crawford’s water bottle “was filled with backwash.”

A team spokesman said there would be no team statement on the matter: “We’re only talking about playing Game 5 tonight.”
