Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic advance at Wimbledon

Serena Williams advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon with a 61-minute victory over Kimiko Date-Krumm on Saturday.

The top-seeded Williams overwhelmed her 42-year-old opponent, 6-1, 6-0, on Center Court for her 600th career win.

Williams and Sloane Stephens, who won earlier Saturday, are the only American women left following Alison Riske’s straight-set loss to Kaia Kanepi of Estonia.

“I feel like I’m pleased I’m moving well. I’m covering the court OK,” Williams said. “Every time I come to Wimbledon, if I’m able to stay the second week, there’s always things I’d like to improve on.”

Novak Djokovic, the top-seeded man, routed No. 28 Jeremy Chardy of France, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. The rangy Serb committed only three unforced errors and won 93% of his first-serve points. He will next face No. 13 Tommy Haas of Germany, who rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 victory over Feliciano Lopez of Spain.

“It was a fantastic match. I felt great from the start to the end,” Djokovic said. “I had that super focus and tried to be out there every point and not allow him to come back to the net and not have any chance.”
