Often there are bandwagon NHL and NBA fans who crop up this time of year, and you can’t really blame them with all the playoff excitement, but after listening to Steve Carell chat with Tom Green, you know they both have a deep appreciation for hockey.

Green, who hosts his own show, “Tom Green Live” on AXS TV, kicked off his third season with Carell as his guest. The conversation quickly turned to hockey and the Stanley Cup Final between the Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers.

The teams play Friday night at Staples Center in Game 5 of the best-of-seven series, with the Kings one win from claiming their second Stanley Cup championship in three years.

Green grew up in Canada and played left wing; Carell played goaltender as a youth in Massachusetts.

Carell cracked wise about playing a position with a lot of pressure. “There’s something sort of masochistic about it,” Carell told Green. “It was like ... that self-loathing facet of my personality, I think.”
