USC football: Tight end Xavier Grimble ready for big role
USC offensive coordinator Clay Helton will call plays for the Trojans for the first time Thursday night against Arizona.
Tight end Xavier Grimble can’t wait.
Interim Coach Ed Orgeron has said he wants Helton to spread the ball around more. And with USC’s receiver corps thinned by injuries, that should create opportunities for Grimble and fellow tight ends Randall Telfer and Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick.
“I’m ready to go out there and showcase my skills,” said Grimble, who has 10 receptions, one for a touchdown.
Helton recruited Grimble when he was a high school player in Las Vegas. The two have remained close.
“I know he loves his tight ends,” Grimble said.
