Did Eagles fans really ‘gloat’ over Victor Cruz injury?

It seems the New York Daily News is being a bit irresponsible with its coverage of the Victor Cruz injury from Sunday night.

Check out the cover of the tabloid paper from Monday morning:

Cruz, a star receiver for the New York Giants, is out for the season after tearing the patellar tendon in his right knee while trying to catch an Eli Manning pass in the end zone.

But did Eagles fans really gloat about the injury?

Surely some idiots did, that's inevitable, but from what was shown during the "Sunday Night Football" broadcast everybody at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia seemed to be holding their breath as Cruz screamed in agony.

Maybe the folks at the Daily News had some inside scoop on what was really going on at the stadium that we dildn't see on TV?

Well, if they did, it wasn't reported in the story. Instead, it's just a game recap that definitely discusses Cruz's injury but makes no mention of the reactions of the Eagles and their fans.

So what about the images run on the cover that seem to support the headline? The main photo, of two members of the Eagles staff cheering on the sideline while Cruz is crumpled nearby in excruciating pain, appears to be misleading.

In video replays of the incident, the two men seem to be cheering the result of the play as it happened in real time, before realizing that Cruz was injured. SB Nation even found a photo showing one of the two men -- the one who appears to be the most enthusiastic in the original photo -- taking a knee while Cruz was tended to on the field.

And then there's the tweet on the cover that states, "Hey Giants fans: Victor Cruz is over. Dance to that." Turns out that came from shock jock Mike Missanelli, who later apologized profusely and said that he didn't realize Cruz was injured on the play.

So that's all there is to the big cover story -- not much of anything. The Cruz injury is big enough news as it is -- really no need to make stuff up.
