WWE superstar Daniel Bryan has had an improbable career filled with twists and turns that culminated in him being crowned WWE world heavyweight champion. Now it appears his career has one final, sad twist in it.

On his Twitter account Monday, Bryan tweeted that he is going to have to retire and will elaborate version on Monday night’s “Monday Night Raw.”

Is it possible this is an elaborate angle, with him swerving everyone? That this is Part 1 of him turning heel and joining the Authority? It’s possible, but very unlikely.

Bryan, 34, came into WWE as a veteran but had to join NXT and be mentored by the Miz, who had far less experience than Bryan. This sent the Internet wrestling community over the edge, as Bryan had long been considered one of the best pro wrestlers in the world before joining WWE. But WWE considered him to be too small and never planned to give him a real push to the top.

Then Bryan started chanting “Yes! Yes! Yes!” and the crowd started joining him. Soon, entire arenas were filled with people chanting “Yes! Yes! Yes!” as Bryan came to the ring and competed. It all culminated at WrestleMania 30, with Bryan leading the sold-out crowd of over 75,000 in the chant after he won the world title.

An injury to his neck and multiple concussions soon sidelined him, and fans would still chant “Yes!” during matches, awaiting his return.

Now it’s time to chant “No!”
