Plane flies ‘Fire Alford’ banner above UCLA campus

A number of UCLA basketball fans are unhappy with Coach Steve Alford, and on Monday, they took to the sky to express their displeasure.

On Monday morning, a plane was spotted in Westwood, above UCLA’s campus, towing a banner calling for Alford’s dismissal.

In all caps, the banner read, “UCLA DESERVES BETTER! FIRE ALFORD!”

UCLA finished 6-12 this season in the Pac-12 Conference and 15-17 overall. It was UCLA’s fourth losing season since 1948, when John Wooden began his tenure as UCLA coach.

Alford reached the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament in his first two seasons with the program.

He is owed a $10.4 million buyout if he is fired before April 30, 2017. The coach must pay the same amount if he quits before that time.
