Fifth-year senior Scott Felix is ineligible to play his final season at USC after testing positive for a substance banned by the NCAA.
The NCAA denied an appeal.
“While this mistake was not done on purpose, I take full responsibility for my actions,” Felix wrote on Twitter.
Coach Clay Helton said before spring practice began that Felix’s status was uncertain because of a “personal issue.”
Felix started 10 games last season as an outside linebacker. He made 5 1/2 tackles for a loss, including four sacks.
