Clay Helton is continuing his effort to assemble USC’s 2016 recruiting class.
Helton and Kenechi Udeze made a visit to Jonathan Kongbo III, a top-rated defensive lineman from Arizona Western College.
“#FightOn,” Kongbo wrote in a tweet that was accompanied by a photo with Helton and Udeze.
The final recruiting contact period before signing day Feb. 3 began last Thursday, with coaches and assistants able to travel to visit players.
Udeze, former USC player and NFL first-round draft pick, served as interim defensive line coach for the Holiday Bowl and was designated by Helton as a recruiter for the contact period. He is a candidate to become the permanent defensive line coach.
The 6-foot-6, 265-pound Kongo was once committed to Tennessee. He recently decommitted from the Volunteers after receiving a flurry of scholarship offers, including one from USC.
Kongbo said his top eight schools are Tennessee, Mississippi , Alabama, USC, Washington, Oklahoma, Florida State and Oregon.
USC has commitments from three defensive linemen in the class -- Liam Jimmons from Huntington Beach, Keyshon Camp from Lake Gibson Senior in Lakeland, Fla. and Oluwole Betiku from Gardena Serra.
Betiku has enrolled in spring semester courses at USC.
USC has 14 committed players and six scholarships available.
