Cochise Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering
When, where: Feb. 11-13, Buena Performing Arts Center
Highlights: Cowboys who also happen to be poets and musicians perform their rough-and-tumble art. The theme for this year’s annual event is “Cowboys in Blue.”
Cost: $18 a day; $16 for seniors and military; $6 for students. Some shows are free on Feb. 12.

Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Dance
When, where: Feb. 12, Casino Ballroom
Highlights: Avalon’s historic Art Deco ballroom comes to life with music and dancing. A decadent chocolate-themed dessert bar promises to top things off.
Cost: $25 a person ($50 a couple); the Pavilion Hotel’s Valentine’s Day Package is $342 a couple and includes two nights’ lodging and tickets to the dance

The Simon Singles Soiree
When, where: Feb. 14, Simon at Palms Place Hotel & Spa
Highlights: Las Vegas’ new 47-story hotel hosts an anti-Valentine’s Day party for singles; chef Kerry Simon whips up an inspired menu as attendees eat, drink and tatter a heart-shaped piñata. Prizes include gift cards to use throughout the property.

Calico Civil War Reenactment
When, where: Feb. 19-21, Calico Ghost Town Regional Park
Highlights: Hundreds of costumed “soldiers” reenact the Battle of Ft. Sumter (which took place near Charleston, S.C.) twice daily to commemorate the Civil War’s 150th anniversary.
Cost: $10; $5 for ages 6-15; free for ages 5 and younger; those with a reserved park campsite get six free admissions
