Friendship Shelter hosts screening of ‘Time Out of Mind’
The Friendship Shelter will host an Aug. 21 screening of “Time Out Of Mind,” which spotlights the issue of homelessness, at [seven-degrees] in Laguna Canyon.
Starring Richard Gere and Ben Vereen, the 2014 film offers a rare glimpse into the life of a homeless man in New York. Rolling Stone called it a “small miracle of cinema.”
“I’m thrilled to show this film and continue the dialogue about how homelessness affects our community with the wonderfully talented Ben Vereen, who is a strong advocate of mental health and homeless services,” Friendship Shelter Executive Director Dawn Price said in a news release. “This is a great opportunity to hear from our neighbors about ways we can work together to bring solutions to south Orange County.”
Tickets are $65,which includes refreshments and a panel discussion with Vereen. VIP tickets are $125 and include a private reception with Vereen.
The screening begins at 2 p.m. at 891 Laguna Canyon Road.
The nonprofit Friendship Shelter is dedicated to ending homelessness in south Orange County with multiple support services, including the 45-bed Alternative Sleeping Location, a year-round overnight shelter in Laguna Canyon.
