Get out those running shoes and get ready for National Running Day

Pack your running shoes if you’re traveling this week. Wednesday is National Running Day and now, running concierges at one hotel group will lead the way.

National Running Day has been held the first Wednesday in June since 2009 to create a coast-to-coast celebration of the sport by running with a friend, in a race or by setting a new goal.

Westin hotels is setting its own objective: Create a new social media trend for posting running photos.

Westin Run Concierges will lead scenic, guided 5K runs at more than 20 North American properties, stretching from Maui to Montreal. The hotels will offer participants updates on existing runWESTIN 3K and 5K local running maps that include five picture-worthy spots.

To kick off Run With a View, Westin Pasadena, 191 N. Los Robles Ave., will host a morning 5K run on Wednesday led by Westin’s running concierge Chris Heuisler. Along the way, Heuisler will offer running advice and point out photo opportunities.

If urban running isn’t your thing, National Trails Day follows on Saturday. Held the first Saturday in June, the event aims to spotlight America’s trail system.

At Jenny Lake Lodge in the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, guests can volunteer for a National Trails Day event that focuses on trail maintenance.

Hotel Terra in Jackson Hole, Wyo., offers the services of in-house naturalist Kurt Johnson, who can escort guests on a wildlife tour or photo safari. Now guests can boost their social media pages and their fitness.
