Waiters and waitresses wear their work togs but strap on running shoes for the 14th annual race down Visalia’s Main Street. In the fine-dining category, contestants carry a tray with two wineglasses and a wine bottle; the fast-food racers will carry a burger container and two cups of soda. Organizers say a past winner consulted an engineer about the placement of the wineglasses and bottle on the tray to achieve the best balance and aerodynamics. First prize is $1,000. Also: music, food booths, face-painting and more.

When, where: Race starts at 5:45 p.m. Sept. 27 on Main Street between Court and Bridge streets.

Cost: Free for spectators.
