Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Park visitor numbers rise
The high price of gas didn’t keep visitors away from Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks this summer.
The number of visitors to Grand Teton National Park exceeded 540,000 in August, up 8.6 percent from the same month last year, according to the Jackson Hole News and Guide. The total number of visitors to Grand Teton so far this year is up 6 percent compared with 2006, and the number of people staying at Grand Teton, both in concession lodging and at campgrounds, also has increased.
Similarly, the number of visitors to Yellowstone National Park in August continued to be well above last year’s figures, according to the Billings Gazette.
Park officials reported an 11.8 percent jump in the number of recreational visitors to Yellowstone in August compared with last year. In all, 710,781 people came to the park in August.
The increase follows a summer-long increase in the number of visitors to Yellowstone. In July, there was an 11.4 increase over July 2006. In June, the year-over-year increase was about 9.4 percent.
