Your Scene: Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest point

Share

Times reader “slstravels” shot this photo of a forest scene while climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro using the Lemosho route. “The landscape changed daily while climbing Africa‘s tallest free standing mountain,” said the photographer. “Strolling through this forest on day two was magical.”

Kilimanjaro rises over 19,000 feet in northeastern Tanzania near Kenya. Kilimanjaro National Park, made up of the mountain above the tree line and six forest corridors, was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, inscribed because of its physical uniqueness (extreme height surrounded by plains), its abundance of animal species and diverse vegetation zones.
