In 1886, Vancouver was considered a rather remote outpost with just a few hundred people. Now the Canadian city in British Columbia has grown to more than half a million And it’s celebrating its 125th year with a gift card for visitors who stay at selected hotels for two nights.

The deal: About 30 hotels offer Tourism Vancouver’s $125 gift card (worth about $131 U.S.) with a required two-night stay. Here’s how it works: Take the card to Tourism Vancouver’s visitor center at 200 Burrard St. to cash it in. You can buy theater tickets, tickets to sporting events such as a Whitecaps soccer game, transit passes and more. Only one card is awarded per booking.

When: The cards are offered for stays through Sept. 30, based on availability.

Tested: You have to make your hotel reservations through Tourism Vancouver’s website and select the “Vancouver 125” rate to get the gift card. For example, I found the offer available with rooms at the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver ($372 plus tax a night) and Best Western Plus Hotel Downtown Vancouver ($183 plus tax a night) from June 10 to 12.

Note: When choosing a hotel for this deal, remember that prices shown on the tourism website are in Canadian dollars, which have recently been worth about $1.05 U.S. I used the U.S. dollar prices for hotel rates in this post.
