PST bike tour puts art extravaganza within reach
With more than 60 participating institutions, Pacific Standard Time is the biggest Southern California art extravaganza ever staged. Embracing a regional approach to experiencing the show, the Santa Monica Museum of Art has partnered with three other area galleries for the Pacific Standard Time West Bike Tour set for Oct. 22.
Starting at 1 p.m., bicycling art lovers will be led on a 3-1/2-hour tour, beginning with the Santa Monica Museum of Art’s exhibit on Beatrice Wood, followed by a stop at the Crossroads School’s Sam Francis Gallery for its presentation on women gallerists from 1967 to 1978.
Visits to the Essential Eames show at the Eames Office and to the 18th Street Arts Center for an exhibit on the SoCal Artist Space Movement completes the tour, which will be chaperoned by Santa Monica Spoke, the local bike advocacy group.
“People are not one-dimensional,” said Asuka Hisa, director of education for the Santa Monica Museum of Art and leader of the bike tour. “They like art, they like biking, they like exploring their city. So this does all of that.”
Participation is free. Interested parties need to bring their own bicycles. Helmets, lights and locks are encouraged.
