Las Vegas: Magical Forest lights up the holidays for children
Las Vegas may be an adult playground most of the year, but in December, kids are a priority at the Magical Forest, which is in a residential neighborhood about 15 minutes west of the Strip.
There are rides and other attractions, but the best part is that the proceeds benefit Opportunity Village, a nonprofit serving people with intellectual disabilities. It’s open nightly through Jan. 6.
The attraction takes its name from the hundreds of decorated Christmas trees through which guests can wander. As for rides, the perennial favorites are the Enchanted Carousel and the Forest Express passenger train. For 2012, there’s a new Alpine Slide and the Night Before Christmas 3-D Experience.
Visits with Santa, a gingerbread house display, millions of holiday lights and nightly live entertainment round out the experience, open 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays and 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
General admission, which doesn’t include the rides, is $9 for children ages 3-12 and $11 for adults. Passports, which include unlimited rides, are priced at $15.50 for kids and $17.50 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online.
