Web Buzz: Chef’s Feed app shows chefs’ go-to restaurants, dishes

Share

All you need in your pocket or purse to find a hot restaurant.

Name: Chef’s Feed

Available for: iPhone, iPod touch and iPad; Android coming soon.

What it does: Profiles award-winning chefs and their favorite dishes at specific restaurants in certain cities. From there, you can map the restaurant, add it to your profile and itinerary, rate the dish and tell your friends about it using Twitter or Facebook.

Cost: Free.

What’s hot: This app is becoming a better tool for business travelers. Since launching with San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, they’ve added Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Austin, Texas, with six more major cities in the works. Even non-foodies will be impressed by the chefs’ resumes. Each is notable, with James Beard and “Top Chef” winners; even Wolfgang Puck and Mario Batali are included.

What’s not: In terms of trip-planning, the search bar wasn’t as robust as I wanted it to be. For example, I wanted to search “James Beard” or “Top Chef” and get a list of who has won. I tried. It didn’t work.

Worth it: If you are trying to impress a client, this is a must-have. Don’t even tell them about the app. Just pretend you already know where the best chefs in town go for their meals.
