Virginia: Follow--or, in some cases, roll--in Lincoln’s steps

Share

Follow in the footsteps of Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” with new offerings on Virginia’s Lincoln Movie Trail. The movie was filmed in 2011 entirely in the Richmond metropolitan area, including nearby Petersburg.

Two Richmond hotels where cast and crew stayed -- the elegant and historic Jefferson Hotel and the boutique Berkeley Hotel -- will welcome guests this winter with Lincoln packages starting at $195 a night.

Take a tour of Lincoln’s path on Segway from River City Segs ($59 a person), by carriage at Maymont (discounted to $37.50 if you mention the Lincoln path), or at the Virginia State Capitol (free). Virginia Film Tours also will take group reservations for Lincoln tours.

Restaurants are also getting into the act. Special menu items include President Lincoln’s Oyster Stew and Milk Punch (with apple brandy) at Lemaire Restaurant at the Jefferson Hotel; Hot Mary Toddy and Lincoln Log Cabin Apple Pie at the Brickhouse Run in Petersburg and the Spielberger at Dixie Restaurant in Petersburg.

Some attractions are also offering discounts to anyone who shows a movie ticket stub from the movie “Lincoln.”
