China: New W hotel makes its debut in Guangzhou

Share

The W Hotels chain, famous for its coolness factor, is known for targeting tech-savvy, globe-trotting travelers who are plugged into what’s new and now.

It’s hoping that formula works in China, where the chain just opened W Guangzhou, the first W Hotel in mainland China.

The new hotel, W’s 44th, is part of a rapid Asian expansion for the chain, which has plans to more than double its current footprint of nine hotels to nearly 20 in the next five years.

“W Hotels has a strong pipeline of global growth, specifically in Asia,” said Paul James, global brand leader. “Mainland China is a highly anticipated and strategic market for us.”

And, yes, said James, W Guangzhou will target trendy travelers.

“There is an emerging and ever-more global generation of affluent travelers; as destinations throughout Asia become more popular and accessible, they are creating demand for a new contemporary luxury experience in cities like Guangzhou,” he said.

The hotel, which will have two lounges and three restaurants, “will set a new scene in the city with its innovative design and buzzing bars and restaurants, showcasing what’s new and next for both our jet set guests and trendsetting locals.”

The hotel, in the city’s Pearl River New Town District, will have 317 guest rooms and suites, and will be outfitted with the signature W Bed, 46-inch LED HD TV, a surround-sound system, high-speed Wi-Fi, and MP3 player plug-and-play device. It will also have a 24/7 spa, fitness center, heated indoor pool and 24-hour business center.

Rates start at $256 per night, double occupancy.
