Las Vegas: Get ready to be taken for a ride on El Loco
Folks who get their Vegas thrills away from the casinos may be eagerly awaiting the arrival of El Loco, a new roller coaster to be built inside the Adventuredome at Circus Circus.
The new ride, scheduled to open in December, will pack plenty of punch into a relatively small footprint. As the ride begins, guests will climb 70 feet before plunging backward in a dive that promises to deliver negative 1.5 Gs. And that’s just the beginning of the adrenaline rush that covers covers 1,300 feet of track in 75 seconds.
El Loco will be only the second coaster of its kind in the U.S. (The other is in an Indiana theme park.) The Vegas ride will replace the now-closed Rim Runner, a flume ride that had been operating since the indoor amusement park first opened in 1993.
Single-ride tickets are available at Adventuredome. For those planning to spend a good chunk of time enjoying its various attractions, all-day passes provide better value. A regular pass -- for people 48 inches tall or taller -- sells for $27.95. Juniors -- those under 4 feet tall -- pay $16.95.
Coaster fans already have two options in southern Nevada: the outdoor ride that wraps the New York-New York resort and a highly acclaimed wooden ride, the Desperado at Buffalo Bill’s near the California state line in Primm.
