What are the best places to visit in California? People waiting in line before the doors opened at the Los Angeles Times Travel Show on Saturday were asked to create their own “seven wonders of California” list — and most were hard-pressed to limit themselves to just seven.

A few early birds chose Sequoia National Park, Yosemite National Park, Big Sur, Morro Bay, the Mojave Desert, downtown Los Angeles — “specifically the Theater District” — and the Golden Gate Bridge as their not-to-miss California locations.

Phillip and Teresa Tarling chose Morro Bay, Redwood National Park, Death Valley, downtown Sacramento, the Golden Gate Bridge, San Diego and the Fresno County Blossom Trail as their seven wonders.

Ruby Booker and Edward Lee chose Yosemite Sequoia, Lake Tahoe, the Golden Gate Bridge, the coastline around San Luis Obispo, San Diego and the Big Bear area.

Avid California travelers Shirley Aoki and Rose Arbuckle had trouble narrowing down their favorites. At the top of their list: the Santa Barbara coast, Hearst Castle, Disneyland, San Diego, Morro Bay, Pebble Beach near Monterrey, Northern California wine country as well as Temecula near San Diego, Redwood National Park, the San Bernardino Mountains, San Francisco and Palm Springs.

In Southern California, their picks include the Los Angeles Arboretum, the Huntington Library, the Getty Museum, LACMA, Norton-Simon Museum, the Disney Center Concert Hall, the beaches, the Santa Monica Mountains, Malibu, the Rose Bowl, the Los Angeles Convention Center, Staples Center, Old Town Pasadena and the Long Beach Aquarium. They also advocated veering off designated routes to find hidden gems off the main roads.

Other picks from travel show visitors included Mammoth Mountain, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Disneyland, Catalina and San Diego too. Anything you’d like to add to the list?
