Hawaiian Airlines plans to buy more than a dozen new Airbus planes to help it meet demand for travel between California and the islands. The planes, to be delivered in four to seven years, will allow Hawaiian to open new markets, the airline said . . . . The inaugural June Lake Winter Festival takes place Feb. 1-3, with snow sculptures, snowshoeing and the Triple Threat Winter Triathlon . . . . The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Assn. is holding “Sex and the City Zoo 4: Sexy beast!,” a Valentine’s Day event celebrating romance in the animal kingdom, Feb. 9. A new federal law recognizes the city of Salem, Mass., as the birthplace of the U.S. National Guard. Obama signed the measure last week. The measure says the first militia in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in Salem was organized in 1629 . . . . New York’s Grand Central Station, with its glittering chandeliers, cathedral windows and famous ceiling depicting a night sky, turns 100 on Feb. 1 . . . . Daron Rahlves, one of the most decorated American skiers in history, has created the Rahlves Banzai Tour, a downhill ski and snowboard event Feb. 2-March 10 at four Tahoe resorts. In the event, athletes compete four at a time, head-to-head on an ungroomed, natural-terrain course . . . .
