Alaska Marine Highway System 50th anniversary events
Southcentral Alaska, including the communities of Anchorage, Valdez, Whittier and Fairbanks, will celebrate Aug. 2-17 with a special itinerary (a round-trip cruise from Valdez through Prince William Sound) and visits to several communities.
Southwest Alaska, including the communities of Kodiak, Homer and Seldovia, will celebrate with activities on the ferry Tustumena. Dates to be determined.
Bellingham, Wash., will celebrate Sept. 14, with a community event aboard the ferry Columbia.
Sitka, Alaska, will celebrate on Alaska Day, Oct. 18, with a parade and activities.
