Las Vegas: New show scratches the notion you can’t train a cat

Share

You can teach an old cat, if the newest production at Las VegasPopovich Comedy Pet Theater is any indication. Six afternoons a week, ringmaster Gregory Popovich wows his audiences with a menagerie of more than 30 critters, including 15 cats and 10 dogs.

The showman’s felines perform a variety of acrobatic stunts. In one, a cat jumps out of a “burning” building into a net held by a canine “firefighter.”

Popovich claims to be the first entertainer in the U.S. to use trained cats on stage. Therefore, it’s not surprising that, in 2009, he wrote the book “You CAN Train Your Cat.”

Popovich, a fifth-generation circus performer, rescued all of his performing pets from shelters. He has nicknamed his show “A Second Chance.”

They’re newcomers to the Strip, but Popovich and the animals competed in Season 2 of “America’s Got Talent” and have performed on both Jay Leno’s and David Letterman’s shows.

The family-friendly production is staged at 2:30 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays in the V Theater inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood.

Tickets, priced at $34.99 and $49.99, are available online or by calling (866) 932-1818.
