Ireland: If you’re a Fitzgerald, this tour has your name on it
Genealogy workshops and a research trip to the National Library of Ireland might sound more like work than play, but not if you trace your roots back to the Fitzgerald clan and have an interest in learning more about your Irish ancestry.
Pennsylvania-based Friendly Planet Travel offers a nine-day trip this summer that highlights all things Fitzgerald. It stops at Dublin Castle, which was owned by the Fitzgerald family in the 12th century; the tower of Fitzgerald Castle in Kildare; and the Honey Fitz Theatre in Lough Gur, named for President Kennedy’s grandfather, whose singing earned him the nickname Honey Fitz.
The trip starts in Dublin and travels to Kildare for a house party and dinner, to Kinsale for tea at Castlemartyr and to Adare for a medieval-style banquet. But back to the research. There are three genealogy workshops held in the evenings during the course of the trip.
Date: The trip runs from June 27 to July 5.
Price: $3,459 per person, double occupancy (price increases to $400 after March 26). It includes round-trip airfare from Los Angeles to Dublin, taxes and fees, groups transportation and transfers, hotel, some meals, activities and guide.
