Itching to get out on the slopes? The on-the-mountain Ritz-Carlton at Northstar offers an early winter package that includes a room and two lift tickets. Prices start at $299 midweek and $399 on weekends, a good savings at this luxury hotel for skiers and snowboarders who want a pre-holiday getaway.

The deal: This isn’t a budget ski motel bargain but rather a good price on luxe digs for those who want to sample the AAA Five Diamond resort and save on daily lift tickets.

The First Tracks Ski Package at the ski-in-ski-out Lake Tahoe-area hotel is offered during the first two weeks of December. Without the package, lift tickets at Northstar California would cost $86 for adults and $48 for children 3 to 12.

When: The offer is good for stays Dec. 1 to 12.

Tested: I found the package available for $299 a night from Dec. 8 (midweek) and for $399 for Dec. 6 (Friday); prices exclude tax and $25 daily resort fee. Rooms on the same night without the package cost about $30 more, but the lift tickets make the deal a winner.
