Mandalay Bay’s convention center unveils 350,000-square-foot expansion
Reporting from Las Vegas — Conventioneers can now get their shows rolling at the newly resized Mandalay Bay Convention Center, which debuted its 350,000-square-foot expansion last week.
The $70-million expansion features new exhibit space, a 20,000-square-foot foyer and underground parking in this first phase.
A second phase of the expansion is ccnverting existing space into a 70,000-square-foot carpeted ballroom.
Construction began in October 2014; by the time it’s completed in January, the convention center will be more than 2 million square feet and have another 900,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space. Mandalay Bay Convention Center will become the fifth largest in North America in square feet and exhibit space.
New features include wi-fi with a one-time log-in for convention goers and an 8-acre solar system that, when combined with the existing 28 acres on the resort’s rooftop, can generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 1,300 homes.
